Reinventing itself is what has helped the series stay fresh, if only to see what the next evolution will be. Having ability levelling here or a restricted job system there isn't the same as now it's okay for the series to transform from turn-based to action to maybe a shooter or a racer.įF reinventing itself gave us the gameplay heights of FFIII, FFV and X-2 just to name a few and gave us milestone releases like FFVII and FFX. The whole "FF can be whatever it wants to be" wasn't always a thing. Pick one of those and build over it.Īnd then stick with tweaks and twists on that base system for entries beyond it. Gameplay wise, I'll take any evolution over FF12's, FF7R, or KH2's systems. I'm a fan of Ivalice, I like the world and the diversity of non-human races (also hope they learn and do diversity with human characters this time lol). You can't spend the better part of a decade on each new game. I do believe iterating is essential, though. I see what they tried with 16 and can appreciate the effort (though not sure why it took so long to make just that), but ultimately not what I want next from the series. Lol no one can agree what FF should be, so no one's gonna be happy.
